(below) *Text and Video Copyright © 2007 Channel54News.com™ Health department officials are urgently seeking the public's help in locating a local man who, it seems, checked himself into a local hospital yesterday complaining of a little-known side-effect of the popular drug "Viagra" called "priapism". That's an erection that lasts for more than four hours and which can, if not treated promptly, cause permanent damage. Unfortunately, this victim had been suffering from the condition for more than two days when he finally sought help, and was in extreme pain. Doctors treated the man and his symptoms were temporarily relieved, but the man must have thought that's all there was to it because he walked out of the hospital leaving no valid address or telephone number. Health officials say that treatment for a condition this severe must be repeated over many days, and that the man's problem certainly returned within minutes of leaving the facility. Doctors warn that, if left untreated, an erection as a result of priapism may attain the size of a small baseball bat, but, more importantly, it may last indefinitely, and treatment sought too late will be totally ineffective. Health officials tell us that they understand this man's desire to keep the condition completely confidential, but that in a case like this, the patient is best served if he can be located quickly and treated, even if that means asking the public for help.
