FV-51b Hair Care Recall, Performed by April W. (below) *Text and Video Copyright © 2007 Channel54News.com™ We're following a breaking story at this hour. The Food and Drug Administration has just issued an emergency recall of several popular hair-care products. We'll try to have those products up on your screen in a moment. It seems these products were contaminated at the factory with a toxic substance that has caused complete hair-loss in at least 120 users nationwide. The Food and Drug Administration is working closely today with the manufacturers and retail outlets to get the products removed from shelves as quickly as possible. We are assured that the substance poses no other health risks beyond the loss of hair, but officials do say that the hair loss can occur quickly, even in as little as 24-48 hours in some cases, and is reported to be permanent. Researchers for the Administration agree with the recommendations being sent out by the manufacturer, stating that the best and perhaps the ONLY antidotal treatment is to massage the scalp with generous amounts of olive oil. The manufacturer's scientists say this offers the best hope of counteracting the toxins which have been absorbed by the hair follicles and are silently destroying those cells. The treatment should be continued for at least an hour, then repeated with fresh Olive oil. The oil should NOT be used sparingly, but should be applied -- and I'm quoting here -- COPIOUSLY. The second oil treatment should be left on the scalp for 24 hours, then the hair should be washed normally with an alternative product. We do have those products up on the screen now; if you have been using any of these products, please take seriously the manufacturer's advice to stop or mitigate any damage that is being done even at this moment, and then return the product for a full refund at any time.
