FV-54 Local Shoplifter, Performed by April W. (below) *Text and Video Copyright © 2007 Channel54News.com™ Police are seeking the public's help in locating a local shoplifter who has advanced their petty career to an unprecedented level. Local merchants have been complaining to law enforcement for several months now about an individual who frequents local businesses and shoplifts. What do they shoplift? Edna Bryant, manager of a local drug store, says the culprit shoplifts just about anything they figure they can get out the door with. "Sometimes the items they steal don't even seem to make sense," she says. "They seem to be stealing just to be stealing." Merchants agree that the petty thefts are never for high-value items. It's just pilfering. But the suspect has been so unrelenting and has become so bold about it that retailers are up in arms and are demanding that police do something more than just take their reports. Several of the merchants say their security systems have captured clean video of the thief, but so far no one has been able to catch, or even identify the person. One merchant confided that the community has never seen such a prolific shoplifter. If you have ANY information on the identity or whereabouts of this individual, please call 911 immediately.
