We’re following a breaking story at this hour. Animal control officials have responded with local police units to the area shown on your screen. Authorities tell us that at least 100 or more Brazilian Boa Constrictors were released by an exotic pet breeder when the reptiles became too large and couldn’t be sold. The snake that was caught this afternoon was about 19 feet in length; the others could be even larger. Police and zoo officials are working together to catch the remaining reptiles before any more dogs vanish in the area. Authorities are also concerned that humans could fall prey to the snakes. Parents shouldn’t allow children under the age of 14 to walk to or from school alone, and anyone out to do a little yard work should be especially on the lookout near tall grass, shrubbery, or street drains. Animal control personnel tell us the snakes will sometimes curl up and sleep under cars because of the warmth of their engines, or even to find their ways into garbage cans or mailboxes. The public is urged to avoid the area if at all possible, and homeowners are encouraged to keep windows shut and doors closed, and pets should be allowed to sleep inside until all the snakes are rounded up. Unfortunately, animal control tells us this could take weeks or months….And now we return you to our regularly scheduled programming.
